Cyclades The Cyclades’ most celebrated islands include the ravishingly beautiful Santorini (site of Thera, a volcano that last erupted in the 16th century); cosmopolitan Mykonos, where all of Europe likes to party; archaic Delos, which is literally strewn with ancient artifacts; Naxos, the largest of the Cyclades, noted for its pastoral landscape, wine and food; and Venetian-tinged Andros. With their bustling towns, seaside cafés and nightlife, many of the Cyclades are tempting destinations for evening outings. Indulge! The mobility and range of Milos luxury motor yacht enables you to spend the next day in a deserted cove for a bit of R&R…before you resume your partying the next night! |

Ionian Islands Given their size, you’ll find a highly developed infrastructure of luxury hotels, resorts, spas and shopping destinations for a day’s excursion. Culturally, many of the Ionian islands were occupied and ruled by Byzantines, Franks and Venetians, who left their indelible traces in the local architecture and culture. Mild and temperate, the Ionian islands boast some surprisingly tall peaks. This is because they were once part of central Greece’s Pindos range of mountains, and were separated by seismic activity. This accounts for the islands’ rugged coastline, pine forests and the deepest waters in the entire Mediterranean — more than 4,400 meters in depth. |

Argo-Saronic Islands Among the Argo-Saronics, many unsuspecting visitors are hooked by the irresistible Angistri, whose less visited shores offers a tranquil respite. Aegina, the largest island, is renowned for ancient temples and a lovely capital city. Ravishing Poros offers archaeological sites and monasteries, as well as its famous lemon forest. Salamina has special historic resonance, playing a central role in the War of Independence and victory over the Persians in 480 B.C. Spetses, the most cosmopolitan of the Argo-Saronics, forbids all cars, making it ideal for a walking excursion. Hydra attracts the jet set to its shops, beaches and mansions. And Methana, actually a peninsula on the Peloponnese, is a showcase of elegant old resorts and thermal spas. |
